Punjabi Couple
People give huge importance to marriages in India. It is the only nation in the world who recognize for its rich culture and traditions. Indians believes that the marriage decision should be taken by the elders. Punjabi matrimonies are also arranged by the families and elders of the community. Previously, the Punjabi groom and Punjabi bride meet for the first time at the time of their wedding ceremony. But now a day’s patterns has been changed they first see each other and then move for the next level of marriage formalities. However they still trust and respect the elders while making marriage decisions.

The Punjabi Matrimony is also having some customs and traditions like other communities. Punjabi community is always accepted as the blissful and joyful. They enjoy every occasion with full pleasure and enthusiasm. Wedding is also one of the very significant festivals for them and they put all their efforts in making the day more elegant and memorable. All close relatives of Punjabi family especially put dance (bhangda) and give the blessing to the brides and grooms for their married life ahead.
Punjabi matrimony customs start from the very simple ceremony which is called as Roka. In this ceremony brides and grooms admits in front of all relative that they are ready for the marriage. After this the next step is the mangni also called engagement, where Punjabi brides and Punjabi grooms will exchange their rings by promising to be with each other at every step.  The ambiance is completely charged and there is laughter and happiness everywhere.
Later the day mehendi party arrives. This is the really very joyful day for the bride as well groom. Everyone enjoys as there is lot of dancing and music making the ambiance fully charged with enthusiasm. Finally the most awaited day has come which is called wedding day. The Punjabi grooms will come with the barat with full clamour of drum beats, music and dance. The face of the groom is hidden behind a "sehra" or an ornamental veil usually made of flowers. Then the groom will reach to the decided venue and entered in the bride's palace.
In Punjabi matrimony, the Punjabi brides and grooms take seven rounds known as "saat phere" around the blessed fire taking vows to stay together with the presence of close family and relatives. After the marriage taking place, there are various post wedding ceremonies that take place and soon the time comes for "Vidai" or farewell where the Punjabi bride is finally say good bye to her family and relatives. At that time she is given blessings to lead a happy wedded life.
